Cimetière du Père-Lachaise

A graveyard from 1804, implemented by Napoleon. Known for lots of its inhabitants, but probably most of all Jim Morrison.

Here lies Jim

A weird thing to visit maybe, but it is a ‘thing’ for sure.. we got here fairly early in the morning, a -of all things- sunny morning! (Finally!). And walking up to the grave of Jim Morrison probably felt different without the hordes of tourists coming here during peak season.

There where just a few people here, and a small guided group. With some Americans that was close to loosing it when a black raven landed on the grave stone. (There were a few of those birds around)

The graveyard itself is really beautiful, the lower part – where we find Jim, has lots of big tombs overun with moss and plants, some in better shape than others. You could walk here for hours looking at all the great details of the different gravesites.

The upper part comes of as a bit more kept, and has a different feel to it, still a very nice peacefull place.

There are lots of other celebs having their final nap here.. Gertrude Stein, Edith Piaf, Proust and Oscar Wilde.

Wilde

The Oscar Wilde grave stone, memorial, was very different to everything else. . Then again.. so was Oscar Wilde 🙂
