441 km west of where we live is a beautiful island. Ludvig starts school there in 2 weeks time so we went on an expedition. Taking with us part of his stuff.
Final day in Croatia, Split
So this years ‘sydenferie’ is over, we had a late flight outta Split, so we spent six hours walking around the old town and the harbor.
Supernice in Split, I think its just as nice as Dubrovnik. And just as crowded.. Last year, the taxi (300 kuna from airport to old town) driver told us – the town been invaded by chineesepeople. It was impossible to move around at all, and the locals still referred to it as “the invasion”.
One can understand well why itis so popular. You can walkfor hours and get lost in the narrow streets and staircases. Lots of resturants and shops.
We even got to see the largest collectionof stuffed frogs. (40 kuna pr pers). Very weird, and absolutldy not allowed to take pictures – a couple of girls kept close watch on us.
The place is filled with stuffed frogs set in ordinary daily tasks.. Going to school.. Getting a haircut (!?), and so on.
Tons of good food, icecream and souveniers. And its also right next to the harbour, so you can popoutfor some fresh air! 🙂
Westworld
And just like an episode of Westworld, we reboot and start again with fishermans evening.
The town of promajna has changed a bit sice we bought the apartment here. Now there is an ATM, several of them actually.. There is at least thre larger supermarkets and a few more hotels.. The tour operators are heavyli into the place with morning gym in the sea and busloads beeing shipped in and out daily.
But the single supermarket and the girls selling fruits are still the same. And the old guy running Hajduk recognize me still from when there was just a few tourist apartments here.
Still.. Going to promajna, makarska or thereabout.. May and september is the best – less people and a bit more frantic. 🙂
Partyboat in Promajna
They pick you up morning, and drop you of in the evening. Its pretty much a 10 hour drinking extravagansa. Packed with people and 90’s music.
I consider it a nightmare on sea.
But then again, I might just be getting old. 🙂
Beach bar Viagra
I was very sceptical, the name carries a lot of bad connetations. And their advertising is off the scale bad taste:
As is their menu:
But it is a really chill place, with treehouse vibes, a really cool brickoven and good cocktails. Well worth a visit, (by day).
Viagra Bar
Just 10 min walk out of promajna is viagra bar, on the way to baska voda. Time for ‘lunch’ and a swim.
Lunch mai tai
Another dayin paradise there :).. Time to test the water!
Makarska
We did a day walking the streets of Makarska, beautifull town. The heat of course, 35 in the shade – not a breath of wind.
Ice cold coke does the trick. The croatians still had their World Cup coke for sale 🙂
The old town is very nice, not to big but with lots of narrow alleys and steep stairs running zig zag troughout the town.
Did some pitstops along the way, there are some very nice small cafes around the square by the church.
For lunch/early dinne we did Riva, just by the harbor. A bit fancy but also the best seafood for miles. We where 9, two of em kids. Beer, coke, tons of food.. 2000 kuna, so not bad.. Usually we would land on 700 kuna, so abit above average, but then again – excelent food.
I had the seabream, pic above. One of the best seafiod dinners i have ever had.
